The problem is not limited to an imperial USG Executive Branch and to the American news media. It is widespread also among elected officials on Capitol Hill of both parties.

Why are American politicians like those in the video so eager to insinuate themselves in complicated matters in faraway places, none of which concerns them and about which they know little? 

This is the busybody, do-goodism aspect of Washington foreign policy. Its importance has been overlooked, it seems to me. We naturally focus on the experts, the Presidents and other high officials in charge.

Since 1898 this power combination of ignorance and hubris has engendered war, wide-spread destruction and general chaos for those on the receiving-end of its beneficence in foreign lands.
