Thanks to a deliberate, long-standing policy of neglect, denial, lies and isolation by Washington, Gaza has exploded. Not entirely unexpected or surprising to those who have followed the issue. Indeed, it was inevitable.
President Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, made their priorities abundant clear from day one. They wholeheartedly embraced Tel Aviv’s ongoing campaign to isolate and vitiate the Palestinians living under military occupation both in the Gaza Strip and on the West Bank.
Joe Biden and his Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, continued along the same dead-end path without missing a beat.
How could they do otherwise? Massive campaign contributions and a good press are contingent upon it. Nancy Pelosi said it best. The Israel Lobby has a hammer-lock on Washington, from venal and ignorant politicians to foreign policy think-tanks.
As a practical matter, the U.S. has been reduced to a puppet state. This is not what the soldiers at Valley Forge had in mind. The EU may not have the same excuse as Washington’s trained-seal politicians. Nevertheless, the EU follows the dictates of Washington. A puppet once removed. The West enthralled.
